6 Things I Want You to Know

Today is D-Blog day. D-Blog Day was started on November 9th 2005 during Diabetes Awareness Month, to help unite blogger's and create awareness about diabetes.  It was created by Gina Capone - your diabetes BFF.  You can read more about Gina at her blog

This marks my 1st ever D-Blog Day.  To say the least, I wish that it wasn't.  I wish that I didn't have a child with Type1 Diabetes so I wouldn't have to blog about diabetes or participate in this day.  But knowing what I know now, if I didn't have a child with Diabetes and a friend had a child diagnosed I would want them blogging and getting awareness out any way they could, I would be there to help them do it!

Today's topic is 6 things you want people to know about diabetes and how it affects our lives.  Well, sheesh, I have to narrow it down to just 6! Well, okay here it goes, in no particular order of importance.

#6 - Type 1 is life changing, for the WHOLE family.  It turns your world upside down.

#5 -  Type 1 is painful.  It's hard to watch Lovebug suffer from it on a daily basis. Just today she couldn't participate in gym because her blood sugar was dangerously low.

#4 - Type 1 is like riding a roller coaster.  There are good and  bad days, valleys and hills, quick turns and days that turn you upside down. Things can be just fine one minute and life threatening the next.

#3 - Type 1 needs research.  The only way life will get easier for Lovebug and all the other kids that suffer from this disease is education, awareness and raising monies for research.  Research  may not bring about a cure that we all so desperately want, but it will help make her life easier with advances in technology.

#2 - Type 1 is sad, lonely, stressful and frustrating.  Despite it all, I am a stronger person because of it.  I am able to do things that I never thought were possible.  It have gained knowledge and confidence to handle almost anything.

#1 -  Type 1 is poking her little fingers 8 - 10 times a day. It is needles, site changes, and shots. It means blood draws and lots of trips to the doctor.  It is no way for any child to live.  We NEED a CURE.

I think you captured it all in the first few sentences...definitely not something you'd ever want to be thinking about, but since you're hear you might as well educate, right?
The DOC has definitely helped me, especially with getting through the late nights :)
Thanks for sharing your six.
