November 8th

This date has some pretty big significance to me.  It is right up there with my girls birthdays, and our anniversary.  You see on November 8th is the day that my hubby asked me to marry him.  Ironically it was a day much like today, weather wise.  Above average temps and lots of sunshine.

I remember he called that morning to see what I was wearing.  That should have been my first clue something was up.  Then there was the detour on our way out to my parents that morning.  He wanted to take me out to one of our favorite places to just sit and talk.  As we were walking across the covered bridge I remember him never taking his hands out of his coat pockets. Then when we went over to the look out area, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.  It was the happiest day of my life (up to that point anyway)

We had only been dating 9 months, but I became smitten with him about 3 months after we started dating.  I knew then it was only a matter of time.  We had a short engagement, just six months.  Lord know's I really didn't want to wait any longer then that.  The six months seemed to take FOREVER.  Then we made it official on May 16th.

You see I didn't just marry the love of my life, I married my best friend.  I know you might think that 9 months is not long enough to become best friends but from the minute I meant him, I knew he was something special.  The first time we talked, we talked for over 2 hours over lunch in the cafeteria at college.  Did the same thing the next day.  It was like we had known each other for years, it was easy.

In a lot of ways were are opposites. I tend to be more on the quiet side and even tempered.  (it takes a lot to get me mad) He has a short temper and is not afraid to speak his mind.  Although I have helped him realize there is a time and place for those things!  I am the neat and tide one and he is the leave stuff where I leave it and come back later type. He never means to leave things out but he does and I'm okay with that.  I take care of most of the diabetes care but he can step in at any time.  He is in charge of the finances. I am not, they give me a headache and I have too many other things to worry about.

But we are also identical in a lot of ways. When we are passionate about something we will go above and beyond. We are both fiercely loyal.  He tends to put a positive spin on things when I am looking down and I do the same when he is down. We are also both VERY stubborn but have learned to compromise when needed.

He is one of the hardest working men I know.  He would do anything for me and the girls.  He finally has a job that he likes after 10 years of "dead end jobs" and having to put up with a lot of crap. He is a sports nut and LOVE the Red Wings and his Lions.  He loves beer and everything about it.  I'm pretty sure he will open his own brewery when he retires, if not sooner!

He is always there for me NO. MATTER. WHAT.  His shoulder is always there to catch my tears. He makes me feel special and loved, even on my worst days.  He is my rock.  He was right there when Lovebug got diagnosed and ready to take a couple weeks off from work until I got used to giving shots (yes, I am still afraid of needles and I don't do well with blood. Ironic isn't it?)

He  asked me to marry him 13 years ago today and I couldn't be happier.  It hasn't been an easy road. There have been a lot of ups and downs but through it all we have had each other t lean on.    He is my biggest supporter and the most loyal man I know. I  would not be the person I am today without his love and support.  Here's to the next 13 years babe, I love you!

When you know, you know! My hubby asked me on Nov. 6th, and we got married on May 1st! And to this day, I think we waited too long. LOL!

Such a sweet post! I'm smiling for you, and I'm thinking of the similarities to me and Gregg. I married my best friend, too. After nearly 12 years of marriage, he's still my best friend. He asked me to marry him on May 16th (your anniversary!) after only 7 months of dating. We were engaged for 11 months, but only because I'm a planner and I wanted what I felt was enough time to make all the arrangements.

I wish you many more happy, healthy years together!
